Ability Through Drumming

El Sistema South London (ESSL) and Thames Valley Children’s Centre (TVCC) are very excited to announce that they will be launching  “Ability Through Drumming” in September 2018 at TVCC!

This music program, developed for children and youth with special needs, will focus on learning music fundamentals through drumming within a group setting.

With support, children and youth will develop skills to play on drums that have been adapted to suit their very specific and individual needs.

Each group music lesson will be tailored to the abilities of the participants to promote opportunities to use musical experiences to develop, improve and practice social and communication skills.

Sessions will run on Tuesday evenings, for approximately 45 minutes and classes will be scheduled between 6 and 8 pm. The groups and times will be set following conversations with prospective participants so that we can structure the sessions for optimal success.

There will be two twelve week sessions, one in the fall and one in the spring. See dates on the attached flyer. To be eligible for the program, the child or youth will be expected to commit to all 24 weeks.

Ability through Drumming is open to any child/youth who is an active client of Thames Valley Children’s Centre between the ages of 5-18 years of age. Class size is limited. Each lesson promotes progressive skill development, so it is really important that the child/youth and family commit to attending each session.

Your child’s/youth’s strengths and abilities will be explored and information will be shared about the program before attendance for the program can be confirmed. This conversation will take place at TVCC and be scheduled during the first two weeks of July with the parents/guardian and their child/youth.

For more details or to express your interest in the program, please contact Michelle Burnett at 519-685-8700 extension 53468 or michelle.burnett@tvcc.on.ca

We hope to see you and your child/youth in this exciting new program!
