LDSA Christmas Party

The LDSA Christmas Party was a huge success again this year. The party was held at the Marconi Club and as usual the room was filled to maximum capacity (although we did manage to squeeze in one more jolly guest later in the evening). A nice Italian dinner was served and enjoyed by all, along with music from our DJ. Thank you to everyone who donated canned and dried goods for those less fortunate. We were able to donate about a 100 pounds of food to the London Food Bank.

Building on Dreams

Well our annual “Building on Dreams” fundraiser on November 5th was again a huge success. The final numbers are not in as of yet but we will keep you posted as to the final tally. We received many gift donations and cash donations; plus of course the generous donation from the Dice Run gang of $20,000. WOW! What can you say about a generous group like that, the LDSA is so lucky to have their support.

Thank you to the executive for all their hard work year after year to make these events run so smoothly. Thank you to everyone who helped with donations and of course our volunteers for the event as well. We could not do this without you! We look forward to seeing you again at next years event on November 3, 2012.

Summer Picnic

The LDSA family picnic was a huge success! It was an extremely hot and sunny day and everyone welcomed the shade that the pavilion had to offer. Many of our newer members came out for this opportunity to socialize. Lots of families took advantage of both the fun splash pad and pools at the Dorchester park. It was unanimous that this location was a success and we have already booked it for next year.

Dice Run

Thank you to all of our volunteers that helped to make the 2011 Dice Run a huge success. Perfect weather, a huge attendance, and lots of smiles from our volunteers …. A special thanks goes Dice Run volunteers that allowed us to participate in this great event once again.

Prom King & Queen

On Thursday June 9th members Val Nyhout and Scott Mitchell were crowned Prom King and Queen at Sauders Secondary School.

LDSA Conference

The LDSA held it’s first Mini-conference in March which was a great success. Almost 60 people were in attendance for the program. The day started with an energetic presentation by our friend Robert Pio Hajjar followed by an interesting talk by Dr. Matthew Heath from UWO, on the relationship of left-side, right-side brain organization with relation to speech development and production, and how this relationship tends to differ in people with DS. The final speaker for the day was Sharon Desserud a registered physiotherapist with CPRI. Sharon spoke mainly on the Infant home visit program and issues to be aware of in the early years of physical development with tips on early intervention. The feedback on the day was very positive and it is the hope of the LDSA to make this an annual event.
